Description
Tie it, pack it, wear it your way. Endlessly versatile sun protection.
Designed in collaboration with our friends at Highdive, the Canopie Scarf Hat blends Shade New York’s sun-smart design ethos with Highdive’s cult-favorite Edie silhouette creating a convertible hat with a 30% bigger brim, city edge, and everyday sun protection.
Made from a lightweight Italian wool-silk crepe and UPF 50+ sun protective value, the Canopie has a soft hand, yet just enough structure to hold its form while remaining fully packable. Wear it tied under the chin for chic coverage, knotted behind the head for a styled finish, or wear loose for a relaxed, undone look.

UPF
UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor — a rating assigned to fabrics that measures how effectively they block the sun’s broad-spectrum UV rays before they reach your skin. Like SPF for sunscreen, UPF measures protection, and every fabric has a rating whether listed or not. Each Shade New York product is certified under AATCC’s TM183 standards.
Several factors influence a fabric’s ability to block UV rays: weave tightness, fiber type, color, and any treatments applied. While some fibers like unbleached cotton or certain polyesters naturally offer more protection, many sun-protective garments rely on synthetic materials. Through our research, we found most UPF clothing contains some form of polyester or plastic— materials that are less breathable and environmentally taxing. Shade New York is pioneering natural fiber alternatives, making sun safety more comfortable and sustainable without compromising style.
